The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s top universities. The university was founded in 1868 to provide the state of Bavaria with a center of learning and research dedicated to engineering and natural sciences. It has played a vital role in Europe’s technological advancement and can boast of having produced a number of Nobel Prize winners and important innovators like Claude Dornier (aircraft construction), Carl von Linde (Inventor of refrigeration technology) and Oskar von Miller (Hydroelectric).
